3 Tips to Perfect your Portraits

Portraits are a popular subject in photography— whether you’re photographing weddings, families, maternity, or boudoir, you’ll be faced with editing your subjects’ faces. Until recently, most portrait retouching was done in Photoshop, but with the newest Adobe advancements in Lightroom, now you can get most of your editing done without ever having to open Photoshop!!

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite video tutorials to give you a head start in using Lightroom or ACR to edit your portraits!

In the first image Liam edits in this tutorial, he mixes a preset from LXCR Presets and a profile from ORE Presets to get a one-of-a-kind style!

In this episode of Archipelago Edits, Liam will edit close-up portrait images focusing on retouching in Lightroom, using Archipelago's presets and tools.

BONUS TIPS: Create beautiful self-portraits by using everything your surroundings have to offer to express yourself!

  • Use a light and sturdy tripod

  • Use a trigger system with your camera

  • Use your camera’s face-detection autofocus to help!

Join Loren and Chris for an in-depth look at self-portraiture. Creating a beautiful portrait is difficult enough when looking through the viewfinder, but turning that camera on yourself can be a much trickier proposition. They’ll discuss different techniques to help simplify this process along with the creative mindset to help go above and beyond with your imagery.
