Winter Photo Inspiration

As the Northern Hemisphere’s winter quickly approaches (and our #winterchallenge is going on in the Archipelago Collective til December 15), we thought it would be a great time to give your winter photo sessions some extra inspiration!

Whether you’re braving chilly weather ❄️ or snuggled up in the warm indoors, check out these ideas for winter photo inspiration!

Bundle Up

Get your clients or subjects nice and cozy by encouraging them to wear their favorite winter outdoor clothes for their session! If your session is outdoors in the cold, they’ll be grateful for the extra layers to keep warm and comfortable.

Fur or faux fur jackets and knitwear like sweaters, hats, mittens, and scarves are great for adding texture! If your subjects don’t have cute outdoor clothes, have them bring a shawl, poncho, or even a blanket to cuddle up in!

Embrace the barren landscape

We might bemoan the lack of color, blue skies, and foliage during the winter, but there’s something incredibly beautiful about bare tree branches, monochromatic landscapes, and moody skies. These winter elements help draw attention to your subject, allowing them to stand out against the stark winter world.

Tip: Use the new Point Color presets included in December’s Zalea collection to bring a boost to brown tones, manipulate greens to give them a more emerald hue, and adjust blues. Zalea also includes Background Color + and - tools so you can dial in the background landscape even more!

Head to the City

Urban settings are fabulous for photography, especially in winter! Your subjects can gallivant around the city, ducking in and out of warm shops and cafes, and bonus points if there’s winter holiday decor and twinkly lights to add more magic!

Tip: Add extra winter magic with Quest Tools 05 - Snowfall, which adds snow to your photos without leaving Lightroom!

❄️ Combine some or all of the above elements for your next winter photo session and share your photos in our group! ❄️
