Western Photo Inspiration

Western photography seems to be trending— we’re not sure if it’s thanks to Beyoncé’s new album or if photographers are “giddying up” and heading out west— but we are HERE for it!

There are lots of ways to incorporate the trend in your photography, whether you live in the Western United States or not! Check out our Western photography trend inspiration round-up! 🤠

Buckle Up with Western Outfits

A huge component of the Western vibe is looking the part— even if your location and surroundings aren’t spurring inspiration.

Cowboy or wide-brimmed hats, leather and suede, ponchos, denim, fringe, Western snap shirts, and cowboy boots are great outfit components to incorporate to give the Western look!

Don’t wanna go whole hog in the Western attire? Try adding one element like a wide-brimmed hat or fringe (even fringe in the decor can achieve more of a Western look)!

A Cowboy or Cowgirl Needs a Horse

If your subject rides or handles horses, see if they can bring their horse to your photoshoot! Always make sure you are safe and comfortable around animals before suggesting this.

If you don’t have horses around or aren’t comfortable with them, try acquiring some horse tack to have your subject hold or interact with— bridle, saddle, horse blankets, etc

Head Outside

Obviously, not every locale is going to have the wide open spaces and big skies of the American West, but you can find a location that gives clues to a Western vibe without actually being out West.

Mountains, plateaus, fields, deserts, and areas with barns or fences all work well to give the Western “look”!
